    Skintville V2 Empty Skintville V2

Post  Skintkingle Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:11 pm

With the release of Survival multiplayer (whenever it comes around) I will be starting skintville version 2, or mk 2, whatever takes your fancy.
All players will build their houses with resources they collect or barter from other resource collecters, the village will be able to have a true treasury, A true military for nighttime defence, a true shop for trading resources and even more, like a forge, a blacksmithers etc etc.
The options will be endless, and TheVillage WILL be invite only from start to finish. private, and the link will be posted here and updated everytime my internet goes down or takes a flop.
Coming july i will be switching my internet BACK to my previous ISP. (If some of you recall switching to a poor ISP is the main reason why i stopped hosting).. If survival multiplayer is released before that i will still host, but the connection may fluctuate.

If anyone has any ideas as to what else we can do for version 2, please post a response here.. I value all of my Ex-Villagers and you all get outright invitation to V2.
I'm not even sure most of you use this forum anymore.. but in case one of you stumbles back upon it this is a post for you, an invitation if you will.

Get posting! Notch is working full time on Minecraft now, so Survival Multiplayer will only get nearer faster.

    Happy Minecrafting!

Personally, I quit playing because I couldn't find another server with the same sense of communtiy. So it's nice to hear that Skintville will be back online soon.

    I'm in.

I am also on Asia-Pacific time now.

This sounds like so much fun. I look forward to it!

    And no stupid rainbow houses!

Of course, who knows when the update will come out, with Notch mainly working on Infdev. I prefer Indev to be quite honest. Infdev intimidates me, and I just keep on walking.

It has been quite a while since I have actually played Minecraft multiplayer,

    I look forward to it.

    You don't have it yet?

What a shame. Getting it is definitely worth every penny. Infinite maps never get boring, and nothing quite beats the new water system.

I personally haven't even touched the multiplayer since Skintville. All the other maps are big and confusing without a community feel. And there are far too many griefers.

I am really looking forward to working as a team trying to keep all of the big nastys out. Those first few nights will be harrowing ^^

Well, if you don't get it soon(before beta) you won't even be able to play creative multiplayer.

trying to think of a form of currency for the village..
I'm thinking the lowest value item that can be acquired is sticks. because 1 log makes 4 wood, and 1 wood makes 4 sticks.
    A currency of trading sticks.
    Yes/no? haha

hmmm, but I personally find wood to be more useful than sticks. What about a free barter system? And everyone can have roles in the village....

    Like blacksmith, carpenter, etc. etc.

Best currency would probably be gold bars. A free barter system would be best though. Roles would be great for the server as well.

gold bars would be too expensive. looking for the lowest value item.. because then everything else can be a multiple of the lowest value. it makes good numerical sense.
But yea... just simply bartering is an option too.

We have a small solid community, which means that any currency system will be practically useless.

So yeah, free barter system would work well.

    hmmmm, group roles.....

Aye, I know. I'm eagerly waiting also and would kill to get my hands on it. But I can't do any purchases over internet with my electron. Sad So I've been trying to get a friend to buy it for me and pay in cash, but well.... Very Happy

SkintvilleV2 will be awesome once the infdev multiplayer goes up Razz

Hmmm, once it starts up we should do a recruitment drive, hanging around other servers and asking good players......

Just to have a few more people.

Small update for those that don't follow the news:

Notch wrote:Hopefully I’ll have some fun news about MP, but I wouldn’t count on it getting released next week. Within a month, almost surely. Of course, now that I’ve said that, I’ll probably miss the release date by six weeks or something..

Well, I’ll let a picture do the talking:

    Skintville V2 Tumblr_l5lzjzXOCO1qzb7ox
(That’s me and Ez trying to play. The visible items in hands are new.)

It’s far from finished, but it’s actually getting to a playable state. It’s now possible to mine blocks and place them back into the world, but items and other entities aren’t handled correctly yet. Player data gets sent correctly, the streaming works perfectly.
The maps are infinite at the moment, and uses exactly the same save format as the single player version. When the server starts saving players, it’ll save them to “player_<name>.dat” or similar, and it’s highly likely that the single player version will do the same, so if you share your level save with another minecraft player, you’ll have separate character saves.

There are two major bugs at the moment:
    * Sometimes a player will get “stuck” in place. They can still interact with the surroundings, but movement becomes impossible. I think this is client-side.
    * There’s a (major) memory leak on the server, causing it to crash after some 15 minutes of gameplay.

I won’t work on MP more this week, except perhaps try to fix those two bugs. Next week I’ll add inventory/chest management to the multiplayer and possibly dropped items, and there will be invite only public testing going on next week. When that works ok, I will release a very early public version of survival mode multiplayer so people can try it.
